How high up is this lawyer?

I needed a lawyer when I got arrested for something childish and i regret it so very much, so before anyone says i am a waste of life and got off i think i deserve it seeing i never was arrested before, I was never in trouble in highschool and I have a 3.4 GPA in an engineering school. But when I was arrested I wrote a statement basically pleading guilty however when I went to court I used a family friend who I was told was a well know and respected attorney. When he went to the prosecutor he was able to get my statement erased from my case. Is that something any lawyer can do or did he pull a big favor?
